The story of Fault Line

The Lode

A fault is a break in the rock where the two sides have moved; California’s Mother Lode gold lies in or near one. A single strip of nugget relief crosses the polished band on a diagonal.

California’s Mother Lode is a belt of gold-bearing quartz veins about 120 miles long, from El Dorado County to Mariposa County. The USGS notes that most of its deposits lie in or near the Melones fault zone: the gold settled in the fractures, as veins and flakes in milky white quartz. Fault Line sets one strip of nugget relief on a diagonal across a polished band, like a vein cutting through rock along a fault.

Description
  • A single strip of nugget relief crosses the top of the band at an angle. Everything around it is plain polished gold.
  • Part of The Lode: one run of relief through polished gold. See the collection

About the collection, the workshop and the gold

No. 521 Outcrop nugget ring in 14K yellow gold, on an ochre rock face crossed by a white quartz vein

The Lode

The Lode nugget collection: rings in polished 14K gold or sterling silver, crossed by one run of nugget relief the way a vein crosses stone, many of them organic nugget rings. Lode gold is still in the rock, in veins, along faults, where it shows at the surface.
