The Lode

To a geologist, a ridge is the high line of a fold in the rock.

For US mining law, what counts is the top of a vein, its apex: whoever holds the apex inside their claim can follow the vein down, even under the neighbor’s ground. For a geologist, a ridge is also the high line of a fold in the rock. Ridge follows a ridge line along the top of the band: an elongated crest, polished on its high points, with fine recesses breaking it up like the rough ground on a hilltop.
