The story of Slim

The Lode

In the rock, a thin vein of gold is called a stringer.

Slim is made for every day: a narrow band with nugget relief across the top and a smooth inside. In the rock, its equivalent is the stringer, a small vein, often one of several that together make up a lode. In California a whole mining district carries the name. In 1977, in the Stringer district near Randsburg, Ty Paulsen found a 156-troy-ounce nugget with a metal detector. It is now at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
