The story

The River

Navette is French for a small boat, and the jeweler’s name for a long oval with two points. Here that shape is filled with fine nugget relief and lies flat along the finger.

In the spring of 1898, thousands of gold seekers waited at Lake Bennett for the ice to break. All winter they had sawn planks by hand to build their boats. When the lake opened at the end of May, the fleet set off for Dawson City; a photograph by Larss & Duclos from June 1, 1898 still shows the shore covered in tents and hulls being built. Navette has the shape of those hulls: a long pointed oval of nugget relief in a fine polished frame, lying along the finger.

Your order details identify the selected metal. The weight is estimated from the 3D file we cast from. A cast ring comes out 2 to 3% lighter than its file, and the range shown already includes this. Your price is fixed when you pay and is never adjusted to the weight; your certificate records the actual weight.

About the collection, the workshop and the gold

No. 507 Riverbed nugget ring in 14K yellow gold, on a wet dark pebble in black river sand

The River

Placer gold is gold the river has already freed from the rock and dropped in its gravel. These are bands textured all the way round, like gold-bearing gravel lining a riverbed.

My uncle’s workshop

My uncle runs a jewelry workshop and makes engagement rings for brides. I develop the designs; each one is a 3D file, measured for its weight in every metal and size. His workshop casts the ring in your size after you order, and the certificate gives the metal and the cast weight.

Our story

14K, vermeil or silver

14K keeps the warm yellow of our pictures, and its price follows the gold price. Vermeil is the same ring in sterling silver covered with 18K gold, and sterling silver is the same ring again. Sterling silver and vermeil have a fixed price per design.
