The story

The Lode

A ledge is a projecting outcrop or vein, often of quartz; US mining law still grants “all veins, lodes, and ledges.” A raised plateau of nugget relief runs round the top, with a polished bevel on each side.

The word is in the law: since 1872, the holder of a US claim owns “all veins, lodes, and ledges” whose top lies inside the claim, throughout their entire depth. A ledge is the step of rock that stands out, often quartz. Before that law, from 1849, California miners wrote their own district codes: how big a claim was, how to mark it, where to record it. Ledge takes that step of rock: a raised plateau of nugget relief around the top, edged by polished bevels, over a smooth underside.

Shipping
Made to order: cast in your size after you order. Workshop time: about 2 to 3 weeks, then carrier transit. Free shipping in the US.
Changes
Before casting starts, changing the size or the engraving is free: reply to your order email. Changing the metal, or a change that needs a new casting once casting has started, means a new production cycle and is charged. We confirm the cost with you before doing anything.
Returns
A catalog ring without engraving can be returned for a refund within 30 days of delivery. Engraved rings and rings modified at your request cannot be returned. You pay the return shipping, and a ring that does not come back in its original condition is refunded minus its loss in value. Returns and resizing

The Lode

Lode gold is still in the rock, in veins, along faults, where it shows at the surface. These rings are mostly polished gold with one run of nugget relief through them, the way a vein crosses stone.

My uncle runs a jewelry workshop and makes engagement rings for brides. I develop the designs; each one is a 3D file, measured for its weight in every metal and size. His workshop casts the ring in your size after you order, and the certificate gives the metal and the cast weight.

Our story

14K, vermeil or silver

14K keeps the warm yellow of our pictures, and its price follows the gold price. Vermeil is the same ring in sterling silver covered with 18K gold, and sterling silver is the same ring again. Sterling silver and vermeil have a fixed price per design.
